Blaxland Preschool first opened its doors to the families of the area in 1965. The land was donated to the community by a local resident and the money to erect the building was raised by a dedicated and enthusiastic group of parents. In 2015, the preschool celebrated 50 years of providing excellent preschool education in the Blue Mountains.
Our preschool is a community-based, not for profit service, currently funded through the Department of Education and Communities and operating under the National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education and Care Services. As a community owned organisation our preschool is managed by a parent based Executive Management Committee. We value the contributions that families make to our Executive Management committee, Auxiliary fundraising committee and other sub-committees/working parties. We are owned and run by the community for the community.
FAMILIES are important. We see families as the most significant people in their child’s lives, holding knowledge and stories that are valuable in helping us get to know each child. Families know their children the best and we respect this knowledge. We see families as advocates for their child and for children in our community. We see families as partners in both the journey of the child at preschool and the journey of the preschool within our community.
Our preschool is a place where families are respected, asked, heard and acknowledged. A place where family culture is respected, celebrated and reflected within the preschool. A place where opportunities are offered for families to share, connect with others and develop their own sense of belonging to our community.
We value CHILDREN as curious, full of wonder, resilient and competent. As individuals who are intelligent and creative. Constantly learning and growing through the everyday.
Our preschool is a place where children are cared for and nurtured, where they are respected and heard, where they can be themselves. It is a place for play, exploration, fun, collaboration, and imagination, a place to work by one’s self or with others. It is a place to research and learn, to feel, watch, listen and share. It is a place where authentic experiences are offered. It is a place where time is given to “be”.
It is a place where children’s strengths and interests are recognised and extended and support given when needed.
RELATIONSHIPS are important. For all involved with the preschool we see the importance of positive, trusting relationships. At our preschool relationships are grown with an emphasis on…
Friendship | Trust | Respect |
Support | Acceptance | Understanding |
Compassion | Empathy | Caring |
Forgiving | Open and Meaningful | Communication |
Encouraging | Nurturing | Shared Interests |
We see our COMMUNITY as vibrant, exciting and full of possibilities and opportunities. We recognise that connecting with our community supports positive outcomes for children and families. The strong relationships we have with our community create opportunities for children to experience and learn alongside members of our community.
We see our STAFF as educators, as a team that works towards creating a very special preschool. We see the strengths that each person brings to preschool, they are respected, valued and encouraged. Everyone has a voice.

It is a place where qualifications in Early Child Education are seen as paramount alongside the wealth of experience each educator brings. Each educator’s strengths are recognised and extended and support given when needed. A place to foster further development, reflect and grow, where learning is encouraged and nourished.
